Some good and not so good news from this week.
After running out of talent riding the Pickstock Racing KTM450 (aka āthe incidentā) resulted in multiple fractures in the cuff of my left humerus on the 17th May, I was finally discharged from hospital outpatient care last Wednesday.
The latest advice from the specialist is that the bone will still take another 12 to 18 weeks to fully heal.
Despite a crack from one side to the other and another small triangular piece (forcibly) migrating itself deeper into the bone, everything is heading in the right direction and, importantly, at this stage I donāt require surgery or further treatment.
The next chapter is 12 weeks of fairly intensive physiotherapy to get movement and strength back into the shoulder.
Unfortunately, that timeline pretty much rules Adam and I out of the remaining two rounds of the 2026 MRF Tyres South Australian Rally Championship, the MSS Safety Rally Barossa and the UME Adelaide Hills Rally in October.
With only three rounds in this yearās SARC, that means our 2026 championship competition season is over.
Itās disappointing, particularly after Shannons Rally Heartland where, despite a weekend full of mechanical problems and damage to the car, Adam and I still came away with a reasonable result and plenty of positives. The aftermath left us with around $10,000 worth of repairs required, so perhaps the enforced break isnāt entirely badly timed.
Every cloud and all thatā¦
The time away from competition gives us a chance to properly repair the car, look at a few further refinements and enhancements, and to start thinking seriously about what we want to do for the 2027 season.
A huge thank you, as always, to our sponsor MSS Safety for the continued support, to all the officials and volunteers who give up their time to make these events happen, and to the event organisers who put an enormous amount of work in behind the scenes.
Iām not disappearing tho!
I still plan to be at the next two rounds, although perhaps in a slightly different role.
Instead of sitting behind the wheel with Adam alongside me, Iām thinking āintrepid reporterā for South Australian rallying for a couple of weekends, a few live crosses, interviews, catching up with crews and bringing some of the action from around the events and the MSS Safety Rally Show at the Adelaide Hills Rally.
From previous experience, it could be dangerous giving me a camera and a microphone⦠š¤š
For now tho, itās head down, physio, recovery, and getting properly rally fit again.
Our 2026 SARC season may be over behind the wheel, but DH Rallysport is already looking down the road toward 2027. š
